Promise of Partnership

Aligning Mental Health Services for Government Assisted and Privately Sponsored Refugees

The Promise of Partnership Project is a joint project between Carizon Family and Community Services and Reception House Waterloo Region with funding provided by Citizenship and Immigration Canada.

The aim of the project is to provide mental health supports to refugees (Government Assisted and Privately Sponsored) resettled in the K-W Community.

The project also aims to raise community awareness about the needs of refugees and build the capacity, particularly in the mental health sector, to respond to the mental health needs of refugees and work collaboratively with community partners, such as F&CS, CMHAWWD, and school boards to overcome current barriers to effective service delivery and build a more inclusive and responsive community.

How We Help Refugees

Clinical Services and Consultation
  • Professional assessment and counselling with a thorough knowledge of the challenges confronted by refugees
  • Group work counselling, providing services where clients feel comfortable
  • Support and advocacy for clients within a circle of care and in consultation with settlement workers and community partners
Community Engagement and Research
  • Increase community awareness of the various mental health needs of refugees with a particular emphasis on mainstream community-based agencies. This is accomplished through community outreach, consultations, presentations and project engagement
  • Share promising practice knowledge with local service providers
Current Project Activities

  • Understanding Your Well-being Workshops (facilitated peer support model)
