Is your teenager thinking about what to do in life?
This is the time of year when our senior youth start exploring what they want to do in life. University and college application processes begin, and decisions of next steps after high school need to be made.
As your teens think about their future and possible vocations, as the parent, so too will you. You play an integral role in helping your teens with their post-secondary education and career choices. You are one of the most important, if not the greatest influence on your teen when choosing a career path!
It’s a big topic with so many options that it can be overwhelming for the teen and the parent. The world of work has changed dramatically in the last few decades and it’s often hard to keep abreast of this evolution, particularly if you’ve been part of the workforce and/or in your field for a long time. The Government of Alberta has an online guide to “Career Coaching Your Teens.” This guide offers practical ideas and resources to help parents support their teens as they explore career options and make informed occupational decisions. Browse the resource for insights, ideas, and tools.
Carizon also offers two concurrent Life Transition Workshops – one for youth approaching graduation, and one for parents of upcoming graduates – on the subject of managing the challenge of transitioning from high school to post-secondary education or the working world. “After Graduation” and “Guiding your Graduate” workshops will be held on Tuesday, November 7, 6:30 – 8:30 pm at Carizon. Workshops are $25, but based on a sliding fee scale for families who cannot afford to pay. To register, call 519-743-6333.
