Trauma Informed Parenting Workshop

June 15th and June 16th from 9:30am-12:00pm

Trauma Informed Parenting Workshops are being offered in the Waterloo Region for parents/caregivers of children and youth who have experienced trauma. The purpose of these workshops is to assist parents/ caregivers with understanding trauma and what it means to parent their child from a trauma-informed perspective. There are two sessions in the Trauma Informed Parenting Series, Part One focuses on “What is Trauma and what are the symptoms of Trauma”. Part Two provides parents with strategies and tools that can assist their child in dealing with Trauma. Parents must attend Part 1 prior to attending Part 2. Interpreters provided upon request! Child minding is also available for these sessions! In-person: 645 Westmount Rd. E. Kitchener.

Sex Education for Caregivers: A Two Part Series

Saturday, Jun 18 & Saturday, Jun 25 from 1:00-3:00pm

As we transition from the simple days of talking about the “Birds and the Bees” towards modern ideas like “Netflix and Chill” and media portrayal of sexuality, caregivers have a lot to think about in navigating these topics with children and teens. In this two part educational workshop, we will be discussing the importance of starting sexual health education at a young age, and the topics that caregivers need to consider when talking to their children about sex. Topics include: sexuality, pleasure, safety, gender identity, consent, healthy relationships, sexually transmitted infections and body autonomy. Open workshop: Participants can register at any time. In this active, therapeutic group we will use expressive arts therapy techniques to get to know and befriend our own “Inner Critic”. Y’know who I mean – that voice in your head that’s always telling you that you’re doing things wrong and you’re not good enough? That one. Movement & Art therapy techniques will be utilized. Slowing down is difficult when we live in a fast-paced society. We often resist slowing down because we are afraid that we will not accomplish all the tasks we need to get done throughout the day. We are often on autopilot and want to get to the next task. Practicing Mindfulness teaches us to slow down and be aware of the present moment we are in.
